This is a tough day for me, and for many of us. I have tried valiantly to move forward, and I am struggling. I was cleaning over the last weekend, and a song came up from my playlist that could not have been more timely.
And I’ll taste every moment and live it out loud
I know this is the time, this is the time
To be more than a name
Or a face in the crowd, I know this is the time
This is the time of my life, time of my life
Holding onto things that vanished
Into the air, left me in pieces
But now I’m rising from the ashes
Finding my wings and all that I needed
Was there all along within my reach
As close as the beat of my heart
~ David Cook, The Time of My Life
This is the time to be more than a name, more than a face in the crowd. This is the time for action, and to raise my voice for those that cannot. 4 years is a long enough to move our country backwards decades. Let’s not kid ourselves here. And I hear the cries that I am sore loser, and I just need to move on, and “get with the program.”
If being a sore loser is defined as supporting marriage equality, including everyone in our future regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation, supporting differently-abled individuals, opening our arms to those in struggle, supporting women’s rights, protecting our environment, social justice, and coming from a place of love and acceptance, then I proudly wear the label.
Let the fight begin.
